THE PERFECT GETAWAY ... ............. FOR A WEEK OR TWO... .........................OR JUST A LONG WEEKEND........ ......................................................ANY TIME OF YEAR! LESS THAN THREE HOURS FROM BOSTON... and... LESS THAN FIVE HOURS FROM NEW YORK CITY (the "Ethan Allan Express" on Amtrack runs daily from Penn Station to Rutland, Vermont... ...just 20 miles from the house....although you may not want to mention that to the "in-laws"...) The perfect size group would be anywhere from just one couple up to two or three adult couples with maybe up to five or six little ones. This oversized log cabin will accommodate up to seven couples or one or two families. While there are only two "conventional" bedrooms in this three level log home (one of which is part of a completely separate "mother-in-law apartment" on the lower level of the house), there is also a fully enclosed queen size private sleeping loft ... plus a queen size room that we call "the cave" because the roof of the house slopes down into it...there is plenty of sleeping room for two adults in "the cave"... but no standing up or dancing around...unless you happen to be under four feet tall (think "sleeping quarters" in the cabin of a boat...without the motion of the ocean). All four of these private spaces are queen size. There are also several not-so-private sleeping spaces ... everything from twin size built in "sleeping nooks" to full and queen size fold out futons on frames. We are located on 21 of our own beautifully wooded, private and secluded acres in the heart of Vermont, with spectacular mountain views from three decks (see photos). Heat is supplied primarily from three wood-burning stoves, two of which are large free-standing fireplaces. There is also a back-up gas heating system throughout the house, just in case you forget (or you just aren't in the mood) to stoke up the fire. Amenities The house is completely furnished, including several cords of seasoned firewood in winter. Linens, blankets, comforters, towels, pots, pans and dishes are all provided. There are two fully equipped kitchens as well as two large outdoor gas barbecues that are used year-round. There are two and a half bathrooms and an extra large washer and dryer. In addition to gas heat throughout the house, there are three woodburning stoves, two of which are free-standing fireplaces, and plenty of seasoned firewood. We recently installed a European hot water heating system that cannot run out of hot water, no matter how large your group or how many showers you take. There are two TV's with crystal clear full premium movie package satellite dish reception, two VCR's, a DVD player and two complete stereo systems. We are equipped with a wireless hi-speed DSL internet connection that will will wok anywhere in the house and on all the decks...bring your laptop! Attractions Ski Okemo in winter (just 7 miles away...figure 10 to 15 minutes from our front door to the base lodge).. or Killington, the largest ski area in the East (about 20 miles away...figure half an hour to 45 minutes on snow covered roads). Cross-country skiing on prepared trails is available less than 5 miles from the house at Okemo Valley Fox Run (a golf course in summer and fall), as well as on the innumerable prepared V.A.S.T. snowmobile trails that criss-cross our area. Horse drawn sleigh rides and guided snowmobile tours are also available in winter. Summer and fall vacationers have all that Vermont has to offer close at hand. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, tennis, golf, antique hunting and even Old-Time Locomotive Train rides are all nearby. Step out onto the upper deck from the master bedroom and you feel like you are in a huge treehouse...this big log house is most definitely NOT a condo on the slopes! Boating and fishing are to be found on Lake Ninevah, less than one mile from our front door. Virtually no visible new construction has been permitted on this pristine 125 acre lake in more than thirty years, leaving about 90% of its genuine wilderness shoreline intact. It should be noted that boats with motors of more than 5 horsepower are not permitted on Lake Ninevah, but we do throw in our two person kayak, our canoe and our fishing dinghy (all people powered) at no extra charge. Foliage Season (an unforgettable experience in Vermont) usually peaks right around Columbus Day Weekend in October. No matter the time of year, bring your camera! NON-HOLIDAY RENTAL RATES TIME PERIOD..............SUMMER........FALL.......WINTER 1 weekend (Fri 6pm - Mon Noon).........$850.............$925............$975 1 Full Week (Fri 6pm - Fri Noon)............$975............$1175..........$1475 2 Full Weeks (Fri 6pm - Fri Noon)...........$1875...........$2175..........$2775 Mid-Week Only (Mon 6pm - Fri Noon).........$875............$925..............$975 Additional Consecutive.........$825............$875..............$925 Weekends | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
